Digitizing glass records: a window to the past
We are incredibly enthusiastic about our "Digitizing Glass Records" project. These unique records, once etched with recordings from KVFD and broadcaster Ed Breen, contain a treasure trove of local history. From early football games and interviews with community members to crucial historical moments like the Japanese surrender and interviews with young men from Company G from Webster County, these recordings offer an unparalleled auditory journey into our past. This project makes these invaluable historical soundbites accessible to everyone through our YouTube page, allowing you to listen to history unfold.
Accessing invaluable historical recordings
The main goal of showcasing these projects is to provide public access to these incredible recordings. We believe that these voices from the past, once hidden in a metal container under old plat books in a closet, are a vital part of our shared heritage. Now, anyone can listen to them at any time, gaining deeper insights into Webster County and its people. This initiative helps us fulfill our mission to preserve and share the stories that shape our community, making history engaging and readily available.
Who will be interested in these projects?
We imagine these current projects will be of particular interest to a wide audience. Local families will discover the voices of their ancestors and community members, connecting with their roots. Researchers will find a rich archive of primary source material for academic study. Students will gain an immersive and engaging way to learn about local history. Anyone with a curiosity about Webster County and its past will find these recordings a fascinating and invaluable resource, bringing history to life through sound.
